The Playground Project committee in the town of Kenton is ramping up for their next fundraiser, an outdoor concert at their favorite community park!

The concert will feature 8 Track Shuffle on Saturday, August 9th at their open air bandstand.

In early June the committee received $39,000 through Federated Co-op's Community Spaces program which was a huge factor in nearing their goal of $125,000.

"We are so excited to be one of the recipients of the Federated Co-op Community Spaces Grant this year, to go towards our Playground Project here in Kenton," committee member Nicole Wilson.

"A team effort for this endeavor from the Woodworth Legion Branch #118, the Kenton Community Enterprise, and many dedicated community members lending their time and efforts to move this project forward."

Wilson says the need for a more modern play centre that was inclusive for all ages and all abilities was badly needed in their community.

The playground structure is a significant addition to what is at the community park already, which is the large green space and the open air bandstand.

"Back in 2019, we grouped together to construct an open air bandstand for music and events to be held behind the Kenton Legion," explains Wilson. "This structure has hosted many community events, as well as private family functions. We are so excited to have this space in town used, and when the idea was proposed that we install a new play structure just down from the bandstand, The Woodworth Legion was up for the challenge."

"With a generous grant from our municipality (Wallace Woodworth) and much fundraising done by the Woodworth Legion, and of course constant support from our Kenton community members, we were well on our way to reaching our goal of $125,000."

Upon receiving the Community Spaces grant through Federated Co-op the committee purchased their play structure and could also offset landscaping costs.  Items still on the wish list is a fence to secure the area.

And that is what the August 9th outdoor concert is all about - to raise money for the final leg of this project!

The Community Playground Project in Kenton, was one of 14 projects selected to receive a portion of the $1 million Co-op Community Spaces funding in 2025. In early June, Valleyview Co-op proudly announced that Kenton Community Enterprise (KCE) was to receive $39,000 in support of this project.
