Estevan's 18U AA Provincials wrapped up yesterday, with teams from across the province coming to Estevan to see who would come out on top. The tournament hosted eight teams, who battled for the top spot over Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.

Earlier on Friday, the event had an opening ceremony, with Estevan Minor Baseball taking the time to dedicate the tournament to a volunteer, Dave Lozinsky, who has been helping out EMB for years.

"I've been involved with baseball as soon as my kids started swinging a bat and throwing a ball. And t-ball, I guess. I've always coached my children. At some times, I coached four teams in the same season, right? All three in-house ball, and then helping with provincial teams or coaching provincial teams."

"Five years ago, I decided to join the board and help around the facilities and make decisions, and hopefully make our association bigger and better and improve upon our facilities as much as we can."

Estevan has been busy in July with multiple EMB year-ending tournaments being held. Lozinsky is happy to see so much activity for Estevan.

"It's excellent. We've got the best facilities in the province, we've got such a great community, such a great bunch of volunteers on our board stepping up, bringing all these other communities to Estevan to experience our beautiful city."

Lozinsky will keep working with EMB next year as he continues to coach his kids' teams.

"Next year, I will plan on coaching my youngest boy and hopefully coaching his provincial team, and hopefully be involved with my daughter's softball as well, a little bit."

Anyone looking to help out with EMB is encouraged to do so by Lozinsky, who says it's ideal to get in some new faces.

"We are always looking for more volunteers on our board. As some people's kids grow older, we're going to be losing volunteers on the board. So it would be great to see younger people step up with new ideas and, you know, to take it on."

"I don't think you do it for the recognition. You do it for the good of your community and the kids. Everybody wants to see the kids play."

At the end of the tournament, the Estevan Brewers were just barely beaten out by the Weyburn Beavers 5-2 in the gold medal game.
