The southeast saw yet another tornado system that ripped through the area on the weekend, with Environment and Climate Change Canada keeping a close eye on the forecast and seeing what was overhead. A tornado warning went out for a number of southeast areas Friday at 8:40 p.m., with a system making its way through.
Despite all the warnings, Meteorologist Crawford Luke says that, as for reports from that system, they were sparse.
"We got a report a little northeast of Estevan from Hansworth, Saskatchewan. There is a report there of golf ball-sized hail from some of those storms. But that's the only report I can see that we actually got from that storm."
No touchdown reports were made from the tornado, with a similar lack of reports for funnel clouds, meaning the system was a complete no-show except for some hail in an area.
There was still some moisture from that storm and the rest over the weekend, says Luke.
"We've got this one volunteer weather reporter in Estevan. I guess they had 18 millimetres of rain over the course of the weekend. Looking at our official gauges at the airport, it's actually closer to 33 millimetres over the course of the entire weekend. So that's just past 72 hours. Our other site is also 18 millimetres. So it seems like between 20 to 30 millimetres across the Estevan area, roughly."
More rain is expected to come down over the area this week, as Luke says we can expect thunderstorms over the next couple of days and rain to come back around the end of the week.
