The Town of Oxbow is asking residents and businesses to cut back on water usage after a lightning strike caused electrical damage at the community’s Water Treatment Plant early Sunday morning.
The unexpected incident has temporarily reduced the plant’s ability to treat and distribute water at normal levels. In a notice issued Monday by Town Administrator Brandi Morissette, the town urged everyone to conserve water until further notice.
“While emergency repairs are underway, it is critical that we all do our part to reduce water usage to ensure essential supply is maintained,” Morissette stated.
To help ease the strain on the system, residents are asked to avoid watering lawns and gardens, postpone washing vehicles and driveways, and reduce indoor use by taking shorter showers, running only full loads of laundry or dishes, and turning taps off when not in use.
Crews are working to restore full operations, and updates will be shared as soon as they are available.
“Your cooperation is greatly appreciated as our crews work hard to restore full operations,” Morissette added.
The town will continue to monitor the situation closely in the coming days.
