The Peter Lougheed Provincial Park has been getting visitors from both Grizzlies and black bears.
Alberta Parks issued a Bear Warning for Peter Lougheed Provincial Park campgrounds on Sunday, July 27, because multiple grizzly and black bears have been frequenting the campgrounds.
This isn't the first time a bear warning has been issued for this area this summer.
Back on June 16, a black bear had accessed and damaged an unoccupied tent at the Boulton Creek Campground.
The tent had food in it that attracted the bear, but it is unclear if the bear had actually eaten any of the food.
While the bears have been active in this campground, bears can be encountered anywhere in Kananaskis.
To avoid an encounter with a bear, Alberta Parks is suggesting people keep all attractants, such as food, garbage, and recycling secured, and never leave them unattended.
While out hiking, travel in groups and make plenty of noise, be aware of your surroundings, look and listen for bears, keep pets on leash, and carry bear spray that is easy to access.
