A weekend of rodeo, chuckwagon racing and cultural celebration is set to take place at the Panee Memorial Agriplex on the Ermineskin Cree Nation.

The Classic Rodeo will run August 1 to 3 and feature events for all ages, according to event organizer Willie Evans.

“It’s not just rodeo. We have chuckwagon racing with the All Pro Canadian Chuckwagon Association,” said Evans. “We have Indian relay races with the Buffalo Warriors Indian Relay Association. And we have a McDonald Rodeo open amateur rodeo.”

The weekend kicks off Friday evening at 6 p.m. with chuckwagon races and the Flying Cross Jockey Club. Rodeo events will begin at 2 p.m. on both Saturday and Sunday, with additional races running later in the day.

Evans said this year’s event places a strong emphasis on youth and family involvement.

“We’re going to have face painting, mutton busting, bouncy castles. We’re giving a lot of prizes away for kids. We’re really youth-focused this year,” he said.

The rodeo will be held at the Panee Memorial Agriplex, with all events taking place on the Ermineskin Cree Nation.
