Two teams from Humboldt were in the running this past weekend at the Saskatchewan Baseball Provincial Championships.

Both teams came up just a little short in their pursuit of championship glory.

A provincial run that spanned two weekends came to an end in the gold medal game for the 15U AA East Central Dodgers.

Beginning in Moose Jaw last weekend, the Dodgers split their fours two games, beating the Sluggin’ A’s 7-2 and then losing to the Moose Jaw Canucks Black 9-8.

The Dodgers rebounded to beat Regina White Sox and lost their final game, before the tournament was postponed due to rain.

On Sunday, the Provincial Championship resumed in Regina.

The Dodgers began the day beating the Estevan Brewers 12-2 advancing to the gold medal game against Yorkton.

In the gold medal game, the Dodgers jumped ahead to a 9-5 lead after a scoreless third inning, Yorkton tied the game in the top of the 5th inning. The Dodgers moved back ahead scoring two runs in the bottom of the inning to lead 11-9 heading into the 6th inning. Yorkton scored five runs in the inning, while the Dodgers only replied with one. Yorkton would pile on a bunch of runs in the 7th inning to put the game out of reach.

In the end, the 15U AA East Central Dodgers ended up with a second-place finish and walked away with silver medals for their effort.
