Roaring engines and shining chrome rolled into the Bruno on Sunday for the 19th edition of the Show and Shine.

Despite a grim forecast leading up to the event, well over 100 vehicles lined themselves on the grass infield inside of the Bruno Sports Ground that attracted spectators from around the region for a day of free fun.

There is no doubt the future of the car show is in good hands, with exhibitors like 11-year-old Cohen Weiman of Bruno.

Even though it will be a few years before Cohen can legally drive on the road, his automative passion has been ignited as he and his dad, Darnell entered their 1971 Ford Mach 1 Mustang into the show and shine this year.

A love for cars for as long as he can remember, Cohen said that he and his dad have been working on the car for three years.

“We just got it running a while ago. Just pulled it out of storage and my dad got it running. And now it's here. I didn't think it would ever make it here.”

Cohen explains the car purchased from someone in Bruno.

“Hasn't been running in 15 years and we, me and my dad got it running. Rebuilt the carburetor and now it runs and it's good.”

With the Mustang placed right beside his grandpa’s truck, signifying three generations of automobile pride, it was a powerful reminder of how a love for cars can be passed down like a treasured family tradition.

While the Bruno Show and Shine is a local favourite, it also draws in visitors on a regular basis.

Don and Carol Parkman from Zenon Park have attended the Bruno Show and Shine for the last five years. On Sunday, they rolled into town with their 1964 Imperial Crown Coupe.

The car was purchased 12 years ago, and Don says he then had it restored, replacing both the exterior and interior of the car.

It’s always an enjoyable experience in Bruno according to Don.

“Year after year, we have a really good car and plus the tractor pulls that I enjoy too, so that's good.”

Don noted that in the past he has attended car shows in Porcupine Plain, Arborfield and Watrous, but the Show and Shine in Bruno is the only one that he attends on an annual basis and was once again pleased with the festivities with the 2025 edition.

An additional feature to the car show this year was having Reid Holland Motorsports on site. Throughout the day, the dragster was fired up a couple of times, with ears ringing as the dragster roared to life with a deafening blast.

The vintage tractor pulls were a big hit once again, with the grandstands at full capacity, glancing at the past with the tractors pulling their weight across the track.

There wasn’t a dull moment for the kids, with a giant bouncy tent, Thomas the Train offering rides around the venue, face painting and more.

By mid-afternoon, the engines had quieted, and the crowds began to clear, bringing a successful 19th Bruno Show and Shine to a close — with excitement already building for the milestone 20th edition next year.
