A Stonybrook Middle School teacher from Steinbach has published his second children’s book, featuring illustrations by a local artist.
Don Dewey's most recent work, Daniel: God Shines in the Darkness, became available for purchase one week ago.
The meaning "between the lines"
Dewey says his newest book's message to readers is simple.
"Number one, to know that God loves them. That no matter what we do—if you're in prison, going through hard times, if life's great—God loves you. Period," he says.
The book is based on the well-known Bible story from Daniel chapter six, and is written as a rhyme.
Dewey says his motivation to write comes from his four grandkids.
"I just want to pass on to them my faith in Jesus, my love for the Lord, and my love for people," he says.
Local talent brings the story to life
Dewey says Joel Harnett, a college student from Niverville, illustrated Daniel: God Shines in the Darkness.
"I feel very blessed to be able to work with Joel, and he has created outstanding art," he says. "Without him, it would just be words."
Harnett also designed a game for readers, hiding “Larry the Lizard” on six pages for readers to find.
In addition, one of Dewey’s former students, who is entering Grade 8 this fall, contributed a drawing that was incorporated into the book.
