Along with the wide assortment of vehicles along Main Street in Watrous for last Saturday’s Fun Run were RCMP vehicles with lights flashing and the occasional siren wail.
Members of the Watrous RCMP joined Sgt. Kris Selinger, his spouse, Detachment Services Assistant Amanda Dezotell and Constable Sarmad Jirjees at the Fun Run. A display table offered both recruitment materials and kid-friendly goodies like candy, activity books, and stickers. Children had the chance to sit in the police vehicle, sound the sirens, and pose for photos. Detachment tours were also available upon request—an experience many described as the highlight of their day.
Throughout the event, many community members took the opportunity to connect with RCMP officers. One attendee remarked to Sgt. Selinger’s spouse that they’d “observed the police making a meaningful impact and felt it was positively shaping the community.”
Capping off the day’s festivities, Sgt. Selinger stayed true to the theme by driving the police vehicle in the car show parade. RCMP officers appreciated the warm support from the Watrous community and were glad its members could be visibly involved in the celebration.
