The Town of High River is warning residents, particularly seniors, about a scam that’s been making the rounds.

According to the Town, it has received reports of emails and text messages offering a one-time government payment to seniors.

In a Facebook post, the Town urged residents to stay vigilant. “This is not real,” the post reads. “Scammers are trying to trick you into sharing personal or banking info.”

Anyone who receives a suspicious message or offer is encouraged to avoid clicking links or providing any personal or financial information.

Anyone who suspects a scam is encouraged to report it to the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre either by calling 1-888-495-8501 or on their website.
