Nine Moose Jaw athletes have been selected for Team Sask and will help represent our province at the 2025 Canada Summer Games, taking place August 9–25 in St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador.

The hometown delegation spans a wide range of sports — from cycling and athletics to team sports like softball and basketball. More than 4,500 athletes from across the country will compete in this year’s Games.

“Every one of our teams has put in a tremendous amount of preparation to get ready for their moment on the national stage,” said Team Sask boss Greg Perreaux.

“These Games will be an opportunity to build lifelong memories, meet new friends from across the province and country, and enjoy the incredible experience that only the Canada Games can offer.”

Marcus Capili, a 17-year-old cyclist, will take on the individual time trial, criterium, and road race. He called the Games a chance to push himself against the best in Canada.

“It’s such a cool opportunity to go represent Saskatchewan,” Capili said. “I’ve been training hard — in the heat, in the wind, on the hills — so I feel ready.”

Three Moose Jaw athletes will suit up in box lacrosse: Kyler Pladson on the women's side, and Chase Folk and Kashton Smith for the men. Pladson has competed at a national level in 2023 and '24.

The Women's Softball roster includes Ava Unser and Blake Maltais. Maltais was a member of last year's provincial #1 team.

In athletics, Moose Jaw is represented by Katherine Rogers and Jadyn Palaschuk. Palaschuk lists Moose Jaw as her hometown despite training partially out of Regina. Both runners are consistent top finishers with provincial gold medals to their names.

And rounding out the team is Suliman Suliman, named to Saskatchewan’s men’s basketball squad.

In total, Team Saskatchewan fields 377 athletes from 92 communities across 19 sports. A total of 85 coaching staff will accompany the athletes. Regina’s Hayden Kot — a rare dual-sport competitor in volleyball and basketball — has been named flagbearer for the Opening Ceremony.

“It is my pleasure to congratulate all members of Team Saskatchewan who were selected to represent our province at the 2025 Canada Summer Games in St. John's, Newfoundland,” said Alana Ross, Saskatchewan's minister of Parks, Culture and Sport.

“Your hard work and dedication has given you the opportunity to showcase your abilities in the country's marquee event for amateur sport, an achievement that you should be very proud of. I hope the memories and experiences of the 2025 Canada Summer Games will last a lifetime.”
