The latest updates from the province, as wildfires burn, discuss some of their latest progress on the recovery of affected areas and evacuees returning home.

As of 11:00 a.m., there are 60 active wildfires in Saskatchewan. Of those active fires, six are contained, 11 are not contained, 25 are ongoing assessments, and 18 are listed as protecting values.

Twelve communities are currently under an evacuation order, with the province giving a list of tips for people to consider:

  • Wait for official clearance before re-entering.
  • Be prepared to experience grief and loss.
  • Watch for hazards such as debris, fallen trees or damaged roads.
  • Stay 10 metres away from downed power lines.

They also recommend doing a safety check when returning to a home, with the following items to watch for:

  • Have utilities inspected by professionals before turning them on.
  • Assess structural safety before entering your home.
  • Test and replace smoke and carbon monoxide alarms as needed.
  • Dispose of spoiled food immediately.
  • Document damage for insurance claims.
  • Test well water before using.
  • Check for boiling water advisories.

As the situation has developed, the province's Recovery Task Team is making additional progress with communities, local leaders and impacted residents as they work through the recovery process.

Debris removal and clean-up have progressed over the last number of weeks, with lots being cleared in Denare Beach as of July 23. Additionally, SGI has removed approximately 230 vehicles from Denare Beach that were lost due to wildfire.

The Denare Beach Community Resiliency Centre has had over 70 individuals seeking information on insurance, PDAP, social or mental health services.
