A male suspect has been arrested for attempted robbery in Portage la Prairie.
At approximately 7:30 p.m. on July 29, Portage la Prairie RCMP received a report of an attempted robbery at a business on Saskatchewan Avenue West.
The male suspect demanded cash and struck the employee with a wooden stick. The suspect did not obtain any cash.
As he fled the business, he struck a 74-year-old female customer with the stick and threw a chunk of concrete at an unknown male customer.
The male suspect was located in a parking lot nearby and officers arrested him without further incident.
The employee and female customer suffered minor physical injuries, officers were not able to locate the male struck by the concrete.
A 29-year-old man from Portage la Prairie faces the following charges:
- Robbery with offensive weapon
- Assault with a weapon x3
- Mischief under $5,000 – damage to property
He was remanded for a later court date.
