While Moose Jaw’s Western Development Museum recently played host to a dazzling array of LEGO masterpieces at the annual Brickspo showcase, southeast Saskatchewan has something just as exciting to look forward to, especially Estevan.
Ray Jacobs, board member and 14-year veteran of the Saskatchewan LEGO Users Group (SLUG), says the group’s biggest show of the year is just the beginning.
“We have a show coming up in Estevan in October and it's called Brickery,” Jacobs shared. “And we also have a show in White City, right near Regina. It's called Brick Stories. And that's in December, our Christmas show.”
Brickery promises to bring the same mix of jaw-dropping builds, creative storytelling, and family-friendly fun that SLUG fans have come to expect, but right here in the Energy City.
SLUG’s major summer event, Brickspo, showcased original LEGO creations across a wide variety of themes, from fantasy castles and starships to mosaics and pop culture icons. “It is a showcase for original LEGO creations built by people right here in Saskatchewan, and also some from the other Prairie provinces,” Jacobs said.
Everything on display is one-of-a-kind. “We’re not just building store-bought sets with instructions,” he explained. “It’s stuff just from our own min. What people see at our shows, they won’t find in any store.”
This year’s Seek and Find, a popular scavenger hunt-style activity for kids, brought a dose of nostalgia to the event. “This year, our Seek and Find theme was the 80s,” Jacobs said. “So, for example, a Rubik’s Cube built out of LEGO, a Game Boy, and various other 80s items like one of those big brick cellphones.”
Longtime members of SLUG were also recognized at Brickspo for their years of creativity and dedication. “We had three members who had reached the 10-year mark. One of them is from Estevan,” Jacobs noted. Honorees received custom-engraved LEGO bricks, which can be added to their LEGO “brick badges”, wearable nameplates made entirely of bricks.

At the heart of it all, Jacobs says the club is about more than just bricks, it’s about people. “I really enjoy having all the other members to bounce ideas off of. They're all my friends.”
From innovative designs to hands-on activities, SLUG events continue to spark joy and imagination across the province. With Brickery heading to Estevan this fall, there’s no better time to let your inner builder shine.
