The Portage la Prairie Regional Library is buzzing with excitement this summer as the TD Summer Reading Club and the library’s 47th Annual Book Sale draw in readers of all ages, providing a hub of learning, creativity, and community spirit.
The TD Summer Reading Club is already seeing strong participation, with many local families signing up to take part in reading challenges, engaging activities, and unique summer activities aimed at keeping children learning and inspired through the summer.
"We love providing a welcoming space where children can enjoy the summer, explore new interests, and foster a love of reading," says Leah O' Leary, Community Program Coordinator at the library. She says, "It’s been an incredible start so far, and we're confident we'll reach our summer goals."
There's still time for families to register for the TD Summer Reading club by visiting the library's front counter.
Two standout events coming in August to the library include a Jingle Dress Dance Class led by Jacinda Houle from the Portage Youth Hub on Wednesday, August 6 at 5:00 P.M. and is open to all ages, and a Henna Workshop with Asha Patel from Portage Literacy Learning Centre (PLLC) on Thursday, August 7 at 1:00 P.M. for youth aged nine and up. Both workshops have limited space, and registration is required.
In addition to its summer programming, the library is also celebrating a major milestone with its 47th Annual Book Sale, which continues throughout the summer the to the end of August.
"In just four weeks, we've reached over one third of our fundraising goal," says Book Sale Coordinator Suzy Laevens. "We're so grateful for the ongoing support. Our book sale is our biggest fundraiser, and it truly helps keep the library thriving so that we may add to our collection and continue to provide free programming for all ages."
New books are added to the sale weekly, encouraging return visits. The library also welcomes year-round donations of good-quality books, with donation guidelines available on-site and online.
With engaging programming and a beloved book sale in full swing, the Portage la Prairie Regional Library continues to be a cornerstone of the community, bringing people together through literacy, culture, and lifelong learning.
