The sidewalk of Salem Home was transformed into a craft sale across generations on Wednesday for the second annual Create and Connect market.

Intended for kids and residents at Salem to connect over their shared crafting passions, organizer Alana Thiessen shared that the aim was kids to bring their own businesses. “A lot of the time they don’t have the opportunities to go and raise their own money...so, I just wanted to open it up for them.”

Eleven-year-old Norah Thiessen was Alana’s assistant for the afternoon, working at the table that had crafts that Salem’s residents made. For her, a highlight of the afternoon was spending time with her great-grandmother who lives at Salem.

The location of the craft show makes it ideal for the community to come to Salem’s front doorstep and connect with the residents. “We have 145 residents living here” shared Alana Thiessen. “So, why don’t we have people to come and visit them this way? It gives an opportunity to experience Salem Home in a casual way.”
