Manitoba First Nations Police Service (MFNP) is continuing its search for Byron Alvin Soloman Roulette, 26, from Sandy Bay First Nation, who escaped police custody while receiving treatment at the Portage Hospital.
On July 24, police responded to a break and enter involving a firearm on Center Road in Sandy Bay First Nation. They found that a male adult had been assaulted by two men who then stole a truck from the residence. One of the suspects was armed.
One of the suspects, Roulette, was arrested while police were handling another incident. He was suffering from self-inflicted wounds and was transported to Portage Hospital. While waiting for treatment, he managed to flee while handcuffed.
Roulette faces numerous charges, including assault causing bodily harm, uttering threats, robbery with a firearm, theft of a motor vehicle, use and possession of a firearm while prohibited, pointing a firearm, failure to comply with a release order, break and enter, and escape from lawful custody.
“Police are actively trying to locate the suspects involved in this incident and are asking for the public’s assistance in locating the suspects,” notes MFNP.
Numerous resources were deployed to the area following the escape, including RPAS operators and K-9 units.
“If you have any information that could assist investigators, don’t hesitate to get in touch with MFNPS Sandy Bay Detachment at 204-843-7700 or MFNPS TIPS line anonymously at 1-833-978-0048 or email TIPS@mfnp.ca,” says police.
