Environment Canada has lifted a severe thunderstorm warning for parts of Rocky View County, including the areas near Airdrie and Crossfield.
The warning was issued at 2:26 p.m. Monday and remained in effect until just after 4 p.m.
At 12:45 p.m., meteorologists had been tracking a storm near Priddis and just east of Cochrane, moving southeast at 25 kilometres per hour. The storm was capable of producing up to nickel-sized hail and heavy rain.
“Heavy rain may cause flash flooding and significant reductions to visibility,” the agency warned earlier. “Large hail may cause significant damage and injury.”
The system weakened later in the afternoon, prompting the alert to be lifted shortly after 4 p.m.
Rain and thunderstorm risks, however, are expected to continue through the evening and into the week.
Tuesday’s outlook includes morning sunshine followed by a 60 per cent chance of afternoon showers and another risk of a thunderstorm. The high is forecast at 22.
