A man in his 20s and another in his 70s were found dead in unrelated water incidents on Saturday during the long weekend.

On Aug. 2, around 2:00 p.m. in the afternoon, Steinbach RCMP were called about a possible drowning in the RM of Reynolds, at Reynolds Ponds.

A 70-year-old man from Ontario had been swimming when all of a sudden, he couldn't be found. RCMP arrived shortly after the call, as bystanders were continuing to search for the man.

Manitoba RCMP Underwater Recovery Team (URT) was deployed to assist officers with the search. A while later, the man's body was found. Police are continuing to investigate the situation.

Meanwhile, on the same day out at Grand Beach, Selkirk RCMP were notified of a possible drowning around 8:00 p.m.

Bystanders told police that two men had gone out onto the lake with a pool flotation device. Both of the men lost their balance and fell into the water. One man resurfaced and was rescued by a passing person on a kayak.

The other 25-year-old man did not come back up.

Officers, along with assistance from the Manitoba Underwater Recovery Team (URT), were later able to locate the male in the water. He was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Selkirk RCMP are continuing to investigate the situation.
