A New York Times bestseller is among several television projects shooting this summer and fall in Calgary and the area, according to ACTRA Alberta.

ACTRA Alberta is the provincial branch of the Alliance of Canadian Cinema, Television and Radio Artists, the union representing professional performers in film, television and commercial productions.

Production on Anna Pigeon – Season 1 began July 30 and is scheduled to continue through Nov. 19. According to IMDb, the series is based on the character created by bestselling author Nevada Barr: “Park ranger Anna Pigeon left city life after personal tragedy. Now she channels her pain into investigating crimes in national parks, determined to solve cases despite any obstacles.”

Filming is listed in “Calgary and Surrounding Areas,” with Hudson Cooley, Samantha Ferrari, Rhonda Fisekci, Curtis Cripps, Leslie McMichael and Donna Burwood attached.

Also underway is Season 3 of My Life with the Walter Boys, which began filming Aug. 6 and is scheduled to wrap Dec. 1. According to Netflix, the series previously filmed in Cochrane, Crossfield and other communities near Airdrie. Season 2 is scheduled for release on Aug. 28.

Other productions filming in the Calgary area include:

  • Heartland – Season 19, filming May 13 to Aug. 28. 

  • Murdoch Mysteries (Unit Shoot), filming July 30 to Aug. 1.
