There were multiple bear encounters in Kananaskis this weekend, which resulted in bear spray being used.

Recently, a bear bluff charged hikers on Kovach Trail, near the Little Kidd Lookout trail, resulting in bear spray being used.

As a result, Alberta Parks has issued a Bear Warning on Aug. 1 for the Kovach Trail area for the time being.

On Saturday, Aug. 2, Alberta Parks issued a Bear Warning for Galatea Trail, due to another close encounter with a bear.

That encounter also resulted in bear spray being deployed.

While the Bear Warnings are issued for these locations, bear encounters can happen anywhere in K-Country at any time.

To help avoid a surprise encounter with a bear in K-Country while out hiking, Alberta Parks is suggesting people to keep all attractants, such as food, garbage, and pet food, secure from bears, and never leave them unattended.

While out hiking, travel in groups and make a lot of noise to alert the bears of your presence.

Be aware of your surroundings and keep an eye out for bears, keep pets on leash, and carry bear spray in a way that it is easily accessible.

To stay up to date on bear warnings in K-Country, head over to the Alberta Parks website.
