The Town of Okotoks is putting out the call to local chili masters this week.

Its annual Chili Cookoff is coming up toward the end of the month, as part of the Summer Round Up on August 23.

Each year, chili chefs showcase their talents at the street festival in hopes of taking home either the Judges' Choice or People's Choice award.

"We'll have some prizes, there'll be judges, all sorts of different categories," said Logan Coutts with the Town of Okotoks. "So if you're looking to show off your chili, whether it’s vegetarian, meat lovers, sweet, or spicy, we want to see all sorts of different types."

The deadline to sign up is Friday, August 8.

Chili won't be the only thing on the menu during the Summer Round Up.

The Okotoks Elks will host a barbecue in support of KidSport Okotoks, and a popular event from last year is making a return.

"We will be bringing back the Cobzilla Challenge," said Coutts. "Last year was our inaugural challenge, where we got a bunch of people to compete in a corn cob eating contest, and I'm sure dental floss sales went up dramatically that day."

More information on the Summer Round Up, including the link to register for the Chili Cookoff, can be seen on the Town's website.
