Olga Nieman
December 27, 1927 – August 1, 2025
Olga Margaret (nee Kowalyshyn) Nieman, 97 years, of Humboldt and formerly of Lake Lenore passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Friday August 1, 2025 at Humboldt District Hospital.
Olga was born on December 27, 1927 at Lunnville, Saskatchewan to Fedor and Katherine Kowalyshyn. She obtained all her education at Ituna. Olga was very adventurous young lady and headed to Toronto for Office Training at Crown Life Insurance and lived there for 1 1/2 years. Olga missed Saskatchewan and her family and returned.
She then started employment with the RBC in various locations in the area. Olga then began working with the Bank Of Montreal and was transferred to Lake Lenore where she met and married Arthur Nieman on November 6, 1950. They were blessed with five children Judi, Gwen, Paulette, David and Cheryl.
Olga’s life was very busy as a homemaker, mother, farmers wife and she continued to work at the bank for many years. All while maintaining a large vegetable garden every summer which also included hours of preserving their bounties for the winters. Along with sewing all the girls clothing.
She did find time for hobbies such as knitting Siwash Sweaters for everyone in the family. She played bingo and loved watching the Toronto Blue Jays. She was a gifted pianist and played by ear. In the winter months Olga kept busy with curling and playing bridge.
She enjoyed regular morning coffees with her friends at the coffee shop.
Her faith was very important to her. Olga was present at every Sunday Mass.
As the children grew and left home Olga and Arthur travelled regularly to Las Vegas, Florida and other hot destinations to escape the Saskatchewan winters. Summertime took them to locations in the province. They often would set out in all directions not planning anywhere in particular and just drive to wherever it took them, sometimes they would be gone for a week at a time.
Arthur passed away on July 22, 2011, Olga continued to live in Lake Lenore until 2016 when she moved to Caleb Village in Humboldt. She loved her time at Caleb. A few months later her sister Julia moved in across the hall from Olga. They looked after each other and thoroughly enjoyed spending their last few years together.
Olga will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by her five children, six grandchildren and four great grandchildren:
JUDI (Peter) Hubert of Swift Current;
GWEN (Bob) Flottorp of Regina and family Angela (Jason) Kelly of Kimberley, BC, and children Eva and Clara; and Bobby Flottorp of Regina

Interment followed in the Parish Cemetery. Memorial Donations in Olga’s memory may be made to the Humboldt District Health Foundation (Spiritual Care).
