A Red Deer Catholic school is welcoming 578 students Thursday as part of its staggered start to the 2025–26 school year.

St. Patrick’s Community School, the only year-round school in Red Deer Catholic Regional Schools, will welcome students back tomorrow. According to the school, the year-round education model is designed to offer a holistic and enriching learning experience.

The K–9 school says that with more frequent breaks throughout the year, students can better retain what they’ve learned and enjoy a smoother transition into the next grade.

“We are so excited to begin a new school year at St. Patrick’s,” said principal Mandy Reed.

“It is truly a privilege to nurture a child’s academic, emotional and spiritual development. There’s something special about being a Celtic — year-round education is just part of it. We all come together to make this a place where both staff and students feel they belong.”

St. Patrick’s will use a staggered entry on Aug. 7 and 8 to ensure a personalized and comfortable start. This approach allows teachers to connect with each student individually before the full school community gathers on Monday, Aug. 11.

All students and families are invited to the school’s Picnic in the Park event on Thursday, Aug. 14, from 4 to 6 p.m. The gathering offers an opportunity to meet staff and celebrate the school community.

As the school year begins, Red Deer Catholic Regional Schools is reminding drivers to be extra cautious in school zones. Motorists are asked to obey speed limits and stop for school buses. The division says student safety is a shared responsibility and appreciates the public’s cooperation.
