The Riverbank Discovery Centre is hosting their first Seniors Days event this Friday and Saturday, bringing special speakers who will be sharing on their experiences that will be most interesting to participants.

Members of the Brandon Garden Club will be on site, Westman Naturalists will be sharing on birding, and sculptor Peter Sawatzky will be sharing on his beautiful bronze sculptures that are on display in the sculpture garden.  As well, local artist Wheming Zhao will be sharing his story on his passion for painting.  But there are more - please see the posters below!

"Seniors Days is just an event that we are starting here to try and get different age groups here to the Riverbank and help our seniors be active in their community and learn about nature and take in different presentations here," shares Dezarae Bodnar, Program and Community Coordinator. "We have two full days of different presentations that our seniors can take in. So that's a very, very exciting thing for us to be bringing to the Brandon Riverbank!"

If the weather cooperates, folks can also participate in a mural painting on the side of a shed located beside the parking lot.

"So, it's going to be a scene that was designed by Doug Fraser and he's a local artist," says Bodnar. "He has a nice sketched out image that we're going to be doing of a Voyageur canoe, different trees, and kind of just a natural scene so people can come and make art marks on our mural!"

Food trucks will be on site as well, so folks can stay all day if they wish.  There is no need to register, and it is free to the public.

"The invite is anybody is welcome. It's a day for seniors but bring your families and if you don't necessarily think that you're a senior, you're welcome here anyways, so we put an invite open to everybody," adds Bodnar.  "And people can feel free to take a walk on our trails too! It will be a great two days!"

Seniors Days takes place this Friday and Saturday between 9:30 am-3:30 pm at the Riverbank Discovery Centre, Brandon.
