Two farms in Rocky View County will take part in Alberta Open Farm Days this month, offering tours and hands-on experiences for visitors on Aug. 16 and 17.
Souto Farms, located in north Rocky View County, will open its store, warehouse, apple chip factory and garden to the public. Activities include food trucks, bouncy castles, a straw maze, a petting zoo, and yard games.
“Whether you’re a long-time customer, or this is your first time at Souto Farms, come join us for a day on the farm,” the farm stated.
Tours are scheduled for 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. on both days. Admission is free, with pre-registration requested.
Providence Lane Homestead, north of Cochrane, is also participating. The farm is inviting visitors to explore its permaculture-based operation.
“We are looking forward to Open Farm Days on August 16 and 17,” the farm said in a recent Facebook post.
Activities at Providence Lane include archaeology walks led by the University of Calgary and Siksika Nation, textile demonstrations, wetland conservation talks, and workshops in needle felting and native fescue cordage.
According to Rocky View County, more than 90 per cent of land in the county is used for agriculture.
