SaskPower is working to recoup almost $35,000 in losses. The details were outlined in a recent report on public losses for crown corporations.
In one instance, over the course of almost a year, an employee of the crown owned power company used a corporate procurement card and fuel card for personal purchases to the tune of more than $23,760. A promissory note was signed, and the former employee has begun making payments. Repayments will continue to be monitored.
In another instance from November 2022 until April 2025, a SaskPower employee used a corporate procurement card for personal purchases costing the company $7,526.25. The employee was terminated, and SaskPower is attempting to recover the amount, and management is preparing to report the incident to law enforcement.
There was another incident where an employee used a corporate procurement card for personal purchases totaling almost $3,200. The employee has resigned. SaskPower is working with the former employee to repay the funds.
Multiple recommendations were made by SaskPower Internal Audit to management to improve processes, enhance monitoring and fix control deficiencies involving procurement cards. Management implemented changes in the fourth quarter of 2024-25.
And in February this year a SaskPower term employee removed a laptop from SaskPower against the direction by management. The individual is no longer an employee, and SaskPower hasn’t been able to get the laptop back, so it has been reported to police.
Meanwhile, in the latest report on losses of public money within Saskatchewan health organizations from August last year until February this year an employee with the Saskatchewan Health Authority misused a parking pass.
The government says the employee used an unpaid parking transponder resulting in $577.00 in unpaid fees. The employee had reported the original parking pass as lost and a replacement was issued. The SHA says both passes were being used simultaneously by both the employee and other individuals.
The employee received a 10-day suspension and is reimbursing the full amount owed. The SHA is training and implementing a new parking management system.
