A string of incidents kept Estevan police officers on alert over the past few days, including a residential break and enter, an assault investigation, and several public safety calls.
On Aug. 4, EPS received a report of a break and enter to a residence in the central part of the city. Members attended, but the individual had left prior to police arrival. Statements have been obtained and the matter remains under investigation.
A vehicle fire was reported outside a residence in the Hillside area. Police attended and located a vehicle engulfed in flames. Estevan Fire and Rescue responded and extinguished the fire.
Police responded to a report of a youth drinking alcohol at a party in a multi-family condominium. EPS members attended and sent the attendees home. The parents of the party host were advised of the complaint and associated concerns.
Police kept the peace while two individuals going through a breakup exchanged personal property.
Police responded to a call involving a child stealing money from their mother. Members attended and mediated the situation.
Condition checks were conducted on two individuals whose residences may be searched without a warrant. During the search, police located marijuana and a large knife, both prohibited items. Both individuals were arrested and lodged in cells to attend court.
On Aug. 5, EPS members responded to a report of an assault in progress behind a business in the northeast end of the city. Upon arrival, one individual had fled the scene and was not immediately located. The matter remains under investigation.
An attempted scam was reported to police. No personal information or money was lost. The potential victim contacted their banking institution to ensure the scammer could not access their funds.
Police responded to a noise complaint at an apartment complex. Residents were warned under the bylaw. Thunderstorm activity during the night shift also resulted in several false alarms at residences and businesses.
Two individuals were removed from a residential property where they had set up a tent without the homeowner’s permission.
On Aug. 6, EPS received a report of a possibly intoxicated male yelling at traffic on the west end of Fourth Street. The male left the scene prior to police arrival. Later in the shift, police spoke to a male matching the description. He was determined not to be intoxicated, though he was animated when speaking with officers. He was cautioned about his actions and sent on his way.
A male was found to be breaching his conditions by attending a local bar. During his arrest, he was belligerent and threatening toward officers. He was lodged in cells and will appear in court on Aug. 7 to face charges.
A female was reported stumbling and repeatedly entering and exiting a vehicle in a business parking lot. EPS attended and arrested her for being intoxicated in public, as she appeared incapable of caring for herself. She will be released without charges once sober.
A suspicious female was reported attending a residence. The individual left in a vehicle before police arrived; the vehicle was not located.
Police received a complaint that a semi-tractor trailer was following too closely behind another vehicle and flashing its high beams. The matter is under investigation.
