The Weyburn Police Service was called to a local hotel after reports of an assault. Sergeant Riley Ross says the incident occurred between a customer and his taxi driver.

“Upon arrival, it was determined that an individual who was a customer for a taxicab company was getting dropped off at the hotel. Upon exiting the vehicle, he assaulted the taxicab driver, which resulted in charges under the criminal code for assault being laid against that individual.”

Police located the suspect, a man from Alberta, and he was placed under arrest before being released for a future court appearance. Sgt. Ross explains that the suspect being out of province changes the conditions he is placed under upon release.

“There will typically be different release conditions. That could be by way of maybe money being put down on an undertaking, or the same typical conditions of attending court and no contact with the victim in this case.”

Fortunately, no injuries were sustained in the assault.
