Patience. Even just reading the word, some people have hair on the back of their neck stand up. Being patient. It's a trait that so much so, has begun to wither away over time.
In a world where information, humor, TV, music and everything in between is at the touch of your fingers, and mere seconds away, having patience seems to be one of those things that has begun to disappear. Last week as I was waiting in a restaurant for some food to be made, a gentleman came in to order. The staff were busy, and running back and forth making food. Less than a minute later, he turned around shouting off "This is ridiculous!" and left with no food ordered.
I understand the wanting something, and wanting it now. But in the current times, our brains have become conditioned to expect on demand, get-it-when-I-say-so service, and that's just not realistic. Patience, as they say, is a virtue. It can be easy to NOT have patience. But nobody wins when impatient people run the world. It just becomes a community surrounded by unrealistic expectations, and anger when they aren't satisfied instantly.
That's one of the nice things about camping. There's not the same level of urgency. Things can wait. And patience comes whether you want it to or not because of your surroundings. It's just a deep breathe, a slouch in the lawn chair, and patiently waiting while you slow roast marshmallows. Or light them on fire and fry them so you can enjoy them RIGHT NOW.
