The Rocky View Regional Handibus Society is celebrating its 45th anniversary this Friday with an open house at its main depot in Airdrie.

The event runs from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 33 East Lake Way N.E., with a brief presentation scheduled for 1 p.m. Visitors can learn more about the organization while enjoying refreshments, tacos from a food truck, and a slice of anniversary cake.

“We are honoured to reach this milestone,” said executive director Paul Siller. “This anniversary is possible due to the incredible efforts of our staff, our volunteer board, and the generous support of our community partners.”

Since 1980, the society has provided accessible rural transportation for residents in Rocky View County, Cochrane, Chestermere, Crossfield, Beiseker, and Irricana. It began with a single donated wheelchair-accessible van and now operates a fleet of 15 buses across a 5,000-square-kilometre region.
