Anyone who regularly enjoys Weyburn’s Tatagwa Trails System may have noticed some extra repaving done on a portion by City Garden Road on the Signal Hill Trail. Paige Tenbult, communications coordinator for the City of Weyburn, explains this was not part of the annual repaving work done on the trails system.
“Every year in our infrastructure revitalization program (IRP), we have allocated money for the Tatagwa Parkway Trail system. This year, Riverwood Trail and Signal Hill Trail will see some upgrades to their pavement.”
“The repair that was done over by new City Garden Road on Signal Hill Trail, that was just due to the storm drain damage.”
The Tatagwa Trail System surrounds the city and is part of an urban conservation park. The 8.5 kilometres of trails run alongside the Souris River and are developed for walking, biking and connecting various parks and access points around the city.
Tenbult explains the city invests in the trails to ensure this unique system is maintained.
“It's just a beautiful system, and really what it brings is an opportunity for people to experience different plant species, wildlife, our ecosystem, but also just to be able to connect the city.”
“Lots of people use the trail to walk from one end of the city to another. A number of people use it for running purposes. Other people use it just to kind of stroll around their community and their neighborhood. It goes all around the city, which is very unique for a city our size.”
This year, the Signal Hill Walking Trail will see other improvements alongside the paving, as Tatagwa Tree Day will plant 140 trees in the area. Read more about the event HERE.
