The Town of Cochrane has issued a warning after a black bear was spotted on the trail behind the RancheHouse yesterday morning (Aug. 7).
Town officials say Alberta Fish and Wildlife has been notified and are urging residents to stay alert and take precautions in the area.
The town is reinforcing BearSmart practices to help prevent conflicts with wildlife.
Top safety tips include:

Putting waste carts out only on the morning of collection

Removing food attractants such as bird feeders, pet waste and fallen fruit

Keeping dogs leashed

Carrying bear spray when walking on trails
Wildlife concerns can be reported to Alberta Fish and Wildlife at 1-800-642-3800.
