Humboldt RCMP are reminding residents to protect themselves from individuals fraudulently offering services – including those who offer asphalt and paving services.
They said to remember, if a deal seems too good to be true, it likely is. Be wary of unsolicited offers of discounted or cheap paving or deals on asphalt “leftover” from another project.
RCMP cautions to be wary of any individual who is forcing you to make a quick decision or is putting unreasonable pressure on you.
They advise to listen to your gut. If you just feel something is not right with an offer, walk away.
The RCMP adds if you are hiring a contractor or company to complete work, it’s always best to do your research and get quotes from a few reputable ones to compare.
While not all consumer concerns are criminal in nature, if you think you have been the victim of a fraud, you should report it to police. They can help determine if a criminal act has occurred.
