The Weyburn Humane Society is hoping for a boost in ticket sales for the 'Ride for Paws Support the Cause' vehicle raffle for the 2025 Jeep Compass North 4x4.
The draw was originally scheduled to be made at Weyburn Dodge on Saturday, August 23rd, but has been postponed to October 23rd now. It will also include two cash draws for $3,000 and $2,000 being made first, with those winners' names going back into the barrel for a chance to win the Jeep.
Board Chair Bev Paul said ticket sales are currently behind previous years, so they are extending the draw to help ensure the fundraiser garners what is needed.
Tickets will be available until October 22nd at 6 p.m., and Paul noted that in the days leading up to the draws, the remaining tickets will only be available at the shelter.
Currently, tickets can be purchased at Pet Valu, at Weyburn Dodge, as well as at various events taking place in the coming week, like the Great Plains Taste of Summer Charity Barbecue on Thursday, August 14th.
The shelter has a square machine for the $100 ticket purchases, but e-transfer is an option for those who need to call the shelter to get theirs. Paul said the sender needs to put the ticket number in the memo of the transfer.
"They're going to write your ticket out and tell you what your ticket number is, and then we do send a picture of that ticket."
Paul noted that many people purchase their ticket believing it is the winning ticket. Either way, it's all about supporting a steadfast organization that is integral to our community.
"For $100 and you win, basically, a $50,000 vehicle, and I think the odds are going to be pretty good this year because we're a long way from selling out, whereas you might have had two thousand people standing in line waiting, I'm not sure what you're going to have this year, but that's the whole purpose is to make sure we have the funds in place to look after these animals, and so this is why we do it."
