The 2025-26 hunting season is open, with Big Game Draw and regular licenses available to purchase as of August 1st.

The Saskatchewan Ministry of Environment issued a release detailing what people should know before taking advantage of the province’s hunting opportunities, beginning with a hunting license.

Hunting licenses can be purchased 24 hours a day through the Hunting, Angling and Trapping License (HAL) system, otherwise they are provided in-person at a Government of Saskatchewan field office with front counter service, at select provincial park offices, or from any Saskatchewan hunting license issuer. They can also be purchased over the phone with a credit card at 1-855-848-4773.

All hunters must ensure they have permission before hunting on any private lands, as approximately 85 per cent of the land in southern Saskatchewan is privately owned or controlled. Consent from the owner is required when entering or hunting on private property.

Consent can be provided in writing, orally, or through signage and can be sought through any method, including in person, by phone, or through email.

The Government of Saskatchewan website provides a variety of information to aid hunters in planning their trip. Including the 2025 Hunter Harvest Survey results, the 2025-26 CWD Surveillance Program results along with other information about CWD testing, and all the relevant guides and supplements posted in the Publications Centre.

In addition to these resources, they also recommend taking a look at the Saskatchewan Hunters Guide. This resource provides a detailed list of season dates, options for licensing and fees, and highlights what is new to this year; including species management plans, bovine tuberculosis and CWD updates and a new standalone regulations summary supplement.

Find a digital copy of the resource at Saskatchewan.ca or pick up a printed copy at any Government of Saskatchewan field office, and some select retailers and provincial parks.
