Estevan Motor Speedway fans will have to wait a little longer for their next dose of high-speed action, as tonight’s races were officially cancelled due to persistent rainfall and saturated track conditions.
Aaron Turnbull, speaking on behalf of the Speedway, explained that the decision was made with safety and practicality in mind. “The facility as a whole was fairly saturated already,” he said. “Had we not got any rain today, we might have been OK. But then when we got some rain this morning and the humidity level, it just wasn’t going to dry out and pack in enough for races tonight.”
Turnbull emphasized that the call was made to protect both the drivers and their vehicles. “We don’t want to see a bunch of torn-up race cars,” he added. “It was just kind of in everybody’s best interest to try for another day.”
For those who purchased tickets in advance, Turnbull reassured fans that online sales will be automatically refunded within 24 hours. “Anybody else that’s purchased tickets in advance in other ways can use them at the next event,” he said.
While an official rescheduled date hasn’t been confirmed, Turnbull hinted that an announcement could be coming soon. In the meantime, fans can look forward to Championship Night on August 22, followed by the Enduro Race to close out the season.
“We’ve got our fair share of weather and rain here this year,” Turnbull said. “Hopefully it’s out of its system and we can finish off our season now.”
