The Sylvan Lake Gulls drew first blood in the Western Canadian Baseball League’s West Division Final, knocking off the defending champion Okotoks Dawgs 7-3 on Sunday night.

Cochrane's own Simon Baker powered the Gulls to a 6-2 lead with a grand slam at the top of the sixth in front of the Dawgs' hometown crowd at Seaman Stadium, putting the Gulls one win away from advancing to the league championship series.

Game 2 of the best-of-three shifts to Sylvan Lake tonight, where a packed house is expected at Gulls Stadium. The Dawgs will be fighting to extend the series and keep their chase for a fourth straight league crown alive. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m.
