Rocky View County council will meet on Tuesday to discuss the impact of flooding on county infrastructure.

Reeve Crystal Kissel has called a special council meeting for Aug. 12 at 9 a.m. in council chambers.

The discussion comes at a time when the region has exerpience a stretch of above-average precipitation in the region — previous DiscoverAirdrie reporting noted Calgary experienced its third-wettest July on record, with Airdrie also seeing a notably wet month — and forecasts show more showers and thunderstorms in the coming days.

Environment Canada’s local forecast calls for a high of 22 C on Monday with a mix of sun and cloud, dropping to 8 C overnight. Tuesday is expected to be sunny, becoming a mix of sun and cloud in the afternoon with a high of 26 C and humidex of 28. Showers are possible Wednesday, followed by clear conditions overnight and sunny skies Thursday.

The Old Farmer’s Almanac predicts thunderstorms and showers across the Prairies through Aug. 13, with a few heavy thunderstorms from Aug. 14–18, and isolated showers before warmer weather later in the month. It forecasts August temperatures in the region to average 15 C, about two degrees below normal, with precipitation about 35 millimetres above average.

For fall, The Old Farmer’s Almanac projects cooler-than-average conditions across the Prairies with early cold snaps and wet snow possible in higher elevations as early as October.

The Farmer’s Almanac forecasts wet snow in higher elevations by mid-October, with more widespread snowfall expected across the Prairies by November, along with periods of rain and occasional warm spells in early October and mid-November.
