On Sunday, DiscoverAirdrie put out the call to Airdronians to support and promote the city’s young athletes competing in the national Youth Athlete of the Year contest.

In the contest, the athletes need people to vote for them to advance to the next round. If an Airdronian were to win, they would appear in a 3BRAND advertisement in Sports Illustrated and win $25,000.

Here is a list of athletes who have reached out to DiscoverAirdrie since then:

  • Marisa Short is a versatile athlete who competes in both box and field lacrosse. Currently, she is one of three Alberta athletes on the Team Canada West Field Lacrosse NDTP Team. Click HERE to vote for her.

  • Marshall Diggens is a 16-year-old Quarterback from WH Croxford. He has been playing football since 2016, when he started with flag football. Click HERE to vote for him.

  • Maximus Escott is an 8-year-old hockey player who has been playing for two years. He is known for his kind heart, positive attitude, and strong team spirit. Click HERE to vote for him.

  • Colton Jackson-McConnell is a Bert Church High School athlete. He was on Team Alberta and won Gold at the Canada Cup in July in Nova Scotia this year. To vote for him, click HERE.

  • Quinton Seymour is 13 and plays with New Frontier FC in Calgary (lives in Airdrie). He has been playing soccer since he was three, and although he plays all the school sports, soccer is his passion as he trains twice a week. To vote for Seymour, click HERE

  • Kayden Tobin is a local athlete who plays hockey during the winter and roller hockey during the spring and summer. To vote for Tobin, click HERE.

  • Sophie is a local swimmer who competes for the Airdrie Phoenix Swim Club. Over the summer, she’s taken up triathlon in her spare time to maintain her training. After facing injury and setbacks, her passion never wavered. To vote for Sophie, click HERE.

  • Madden is a local soccer player with many different accolades. He was captain of the Alberta Summer Games team 2023, MVP for George McDougall Mustangs 2025 and Golden Boot. Leading defensive scorer for his current team, and received an invitation to the Whitecaps spring showcase (which can be seen below) and multiple other showcase teams. To vote for Madden, click HERE.

Fifteen-year-old Airdrie ringette player Arawynn Berger is also partaking in the contest.

Fourteen-year-old Airdrie volleyball player Brooklyn Orel is also looking to win the contest.

The deadline for voting for the top 15 in each group is 7 p.m. PDT (8 p.m. MDT) tomorrow.

The competition is presented in partnership with Sports Illustrated, The V Foundation, 3BRAND and the Why Not You Foundation.
