The 'Clear The List' initiative is a favourite for the members of the Weyburn Oilwomen Association, as it helps teachers have what they need to set up and sustain their lessons throughout the upcoming school year.
Teachers make an Amazon wish list, which is posted on a public drive.
"Then we go in there and we shop for the teachers and we deliver some supplies right to them," said Treasurer Janessa Walliser. "Most of their basic supplies, they have to fork out for personally."
She said the initiative is a favourite for teachers as well.
"We get so many teachers reach out to us and just say like 'what a surprise', and they actually don't really know what they're receiving until they open the box, and a lot of people have said it's like Christmas morning around the schools when the boxes start arriving," she shared. "We love supporting them. It's one of our favorite initiatives, and it's probably one of our most popular ones. We get comments all the time and it's really one of the funnest ones to go shopping and not use your own money."
"It's not just about the supplies, it's really just about showing that we value them and we know the impact they have on people's lives."
Walliser said they started this during COVID.
"We knew just how stressful the school year was for the teachers back then, and we wanted to just give them something to look forward to, lighten the stress and the uncertainty," she said.
The deadline is Friday, August 15th for Community members who want to help the Weyburn Oilwomen Clear the List. Help them out by sending an email to weyburnoilwomen@gmail.com to get the link to the public drive, or find it on their Facebook page.
"Then we're going to do our shopping, which is the fun part, and hopefully Amazon gets things delivered pretty fast. So we're hoping all the teachers have their supplies before school starts."
Monetary donations earmarked for Clear the List will go toward the overall purchasing budget for the initiative. But for those who like shopping, there is a more direct option.
"If they see a teacher they know, or one of their kids' teachers listed on there, they can click on the Amazon Wish list and personally purchase it."
