A southwest town was buzzing with family fun and wild rodeo action this past weekend during the 49th annual Kyle Community Rodeo

Mitch Day, chairperson of the Kyle Recreation Board, shared that in addition to the CCA-sanctioned rodeo, the weekend also included live music from Bakersfield, a slo-pitch tournament, kids' activities, beach volleyball, and a free pancake breakfast.

"The local impact is pretty huge, we live in a ranching and farming community, so a lot of local people are contestants, participating, or volunteering," he said. "We thank them very much for that, because we can't put this on without them."

Several local athletes won their respective events, including Swift Current's Maci Martens, who secured first place in junior girls barrel racing and Davis Young from Leader won first in bull riding.

Lily Wilson of Maple Creek took first place in ladies breakaway roping, while Eastend's Tiara Armstrong ended with first in laddies barrel racing.

"Lots of people come to support us and we're very happy for that," added Day.
