Moose Jaw’s Kyler Pladson and Saskatchewan’s women’s box lacrosse team are off to a hot start to the Canada Summer Games in St. John’s, Nfld.
Saskatchewan sits in a tie for first place in Pool B with Manitoba at 2-0-1 after Monday’s competition.
Pladson scored Saskatchewan’s fifth goal in a 5-1 win over New Brunswick on Monday. It was Pladson’s second goal of the tournament. The girls also played to a 3-3 tie against Manitoba, although Pladson was held off the scoresheet.
The girls are back on the floor Tuesday when they face the hosts from Newfoundland.
In women’s softball, Saskatchewan is in third place in Pool A with a 1-2 record.
Saskatchewan picked up their first win on Monday with an 8-3 win over Nova Scotia. Moose Jaw’s Ava Unser pitched 3.2 innings and allowed three hits, three runs and struck out three.
In the second game of the day on Monday, Saskatchewan dropped a 1-0 decision to British Columbia. Also on the team representing Moose Jaw is Blake Maltais.
Saskatchewan is back in action when they face PEI on Tuesday.
Moose Jaw’s Marcus Capili saw his first action in cycling on Monday.
He competed in the road cycling men’s time trials and registered a time of 37:27.99.
Capili’s next race will be on Wednesday for the road cycling criterium.
