Douglas Gordon Hannon passed away on August 7, 2025, in Swift Current, Saskatchewan at the age of 73. Doug was born in Mankota, Saskatchewan, on September 12, 1951 and grew up on the family homestead southeast of Ferland with his brothers, Clayton and Wendell. From a young age, his playful nature and sense of humor shone through, often at the expense of his younger brothers. Doug farmed with Wendell from 1977 to 1998 before continuing on his own until 2000, when the farm was sold. He later worked for other farmers, hauled holiday trailers, and eventually pursued his love of travel. Purchasing his own fifth wheel marking the beginning of many winters spent in Yuma, Arizona, a place he cherished for its warmth, sunshine, and friendships. A proud former hockey goalie, Doug was quick to offer advice to the younger players in the family, always with his trademark wit. He enjoyed traveling across the U.S., photography, boating, water skiing at Lac Pelletier, and countless family gatherings. Despite not knowing how to swim, he was a skilled water skier, relying on his lifejacket and his determination, an example of his adventurous spirit. Doug was known for his strong will, candid opinions, and unwavering authenticity. He loved to tell stories, share a laugh, and was never without a plan for what he might buy, fix, or improve next. His nieces and nephews will remember rides in the combine, summer trips, cheering them on at sporting events, and his steady presence in their lives. Doug was predeceased by his parents Gordon (2013) and Vera (2022) Hannon and will be lovingly remembered by his family brother Clayton (Aline) Hannon, nephew Lane (Katy) Hannon, nephew Dustin (Charmayne) Hannon, great nephew & niece Barrett and Paisleigh, nephew Cole Hannon, brother Wendell (Denise) Hannon, niece Amberlea (Derek) Chabot, great nieces Taeya and Jade, nephew Shane (Morgan) Hannon, great nieces Brynlee, Kenzie and Emry, niece Jenna (Matthew) Axten, great nephew & niece Kai and Isabelle, and many friends. A Graveside Funeral Service was held on Wednesday, August 20, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. in McCord Cemetery. Ruby Sayers officiated the service. Shane Hannon was Doug’s urn bearer. Amberlea Chabot and Dustin Hannon shared fond memories of their Uncle Doug. Doug will be deeply missed for his humor, stubbornness, and the unique way he lived his life always on his own terms.
