The Estevan Police Service responded to 45 calls over the weekend, including an assault investigation, an impaired driving arrest, and a hit-and-run involving a utility box.
Police were called to the alley of the 700 block of Fourth Street after a vehicle struck a utility box and fled the scene.
Officers also responded to a retail store where an unknown man was reportedly checking for unlocked vehicles in the parking lot.
EPS says bike thefts have been on the rise this summer, prompting reminders for residents and visitors to lock up both pedal and e-bikes. Police note stolen bikes are difficult to recover.
The service’s bike patrol regularly covers pathways, parks and business areas, and foot and bike patrols are often conducted in areas where these types of crimes occur.
On Monday, police received a report of suspicious individuals on private property. Statements were taken and the investigation remains ongoing.
A local gas station reported a fuel theft after a driver filled up and left without paying. Officers are reviewing surveillance footage.
Police also checked on a man after a member of the public reported seeing him banging on a window from inside a downtown commercial dwelling. Officers confirmed the individual was safe and no emergency was taking place.
The theft of a generator and air compressor was reported from a garage, prompting police to remind residents to secure outbuildings and consider installing cameras.
In another case, police are investigating an attempted theft from a business in central Estevan involving property believed to have been left out for later pickup. Surveillance footage will be reviewed to identify suspects.
