A movie filmed in Didsbury is receiving high praise for its depiction of Doc Holliday.

Wynonna Earp Vengeance received recognition from collider.com for how the show showcased Doc Holliday (played by Tim Rozon in the film).

The supernatural western gave the character a modern twist, making him a cursed, semi-immortal gunfighter.

"From the Earp-inspired Gunsmoke to Tombstone to Wyatt Earp, depictions of Earp have captured our imaginations, always with the standout sidekick of Doc Holliday. While the late, great Val Kilmer’s portrayal of the dentist by day, the fastest, most charismatic gunslinger by night, is the most iconic in film, supernatural Western series Wynonna Earp modernized his swagger with an occult twist," shared the website.

The website also shares that Doc Holliday and Wynonna Earp is an all time great relationship for genre television.

"Doc and Wynonna echo each other’s tendency to run away from problems, an avoidant instinct contradicted by their stubbornness and default to bravery. In short, Wynonna is enough like Doc to challenge him, and different enough from him to inspire him to be better."

According to IMDB, in the show, "Wynonna Earp is coming home to battle her greatest foe yet: a psychotic seductress hellbent on revenge against her...and everyone she loves."

Multiple scenes of the movie were shot north of Airdrie in Didsbury.

Some of the other stars in the show include Melanie Scrofano and Katherine Barrell. Emily Andras is the creator.

Back in June, Wynonna Earp Vengeance won several Canadian Screen Awards, including:

  • Best TV Movie
  • Best Lead Performer (Melanie Scrofano)
  • Best Writing (Emily Andras)
  • Best Production Design or Art Direction, Fiction (Trevor Smith, Joel Tobman, Amber Humphries)
  • Best Original Music, Drama
  • Best VFX
  • Best Stunt Coordination

Earlier this year, the Canada Media Fund (CMF)  announced that 23 projects would receive $10 million in production funding through their Distributor Program. SEVEN24 Films is receiving the commitment of $500,000 for another Wynonna Earp special.
