Humboldt City Council met on Monday evening for their executive meeting in August.

Among the items discussed was the Monthly Protective Services report that was delivered by Director Mike Kwasnica.

He noted July was busy for the Community Safety Officer (CSO) Program. Kwasnica said the CSO received a boost with the hiring of Bruce Ehalt, who will be providing services one day a week in Lanigan and Watson and one day a week in Humboldt.

With CSO Tarrant away to assist with the northern wildfires, Ehalt covered the missing time.

There was an emphasis for bylaw enforcement with yard maintenance.

It was also noted that several cats were reported in the Swain Cres. and 12th Ave area with none located. There were four cat traps placed with seven cats taken to the SPCA and Humboldt.

Throughout July, the Humboldt Fire Department was busy responding to ten incidents. Among them were four vehicle accidents.

From the monthly RCMP report, the number of incidents in July (160) increased from the previous month (126) and up from July 2024 (142).

Kwasnica said that he spoke to the RCMP to discuss the number of incidents and it was indicated that some of the incident numbers are misleading.

He provided the example of incidents of assault inside of the report which had ten for July of 2025 compared to one in July 2024. Kwasnica said the ten reported, were ten files as opposed to ten occurrences of assault.
