While there were no injuries resulting from a vehicle collision last Tuesday at the intersection of Fifth Street and First Avenue, one vehicle was towed from the scene, and another sustained minor damage.

Deputy Chief Shane St. John with the Weyburn Police Service said a young driver was issued a 'Fail to Yield' ticket for proceeding into the intersection before it was safe to do so and causing the collision.

"The driver knew, right away, they were at fault, and were very upset and apologetic, but luckily no injuries," he shared. "Just a lesson learned, and I think that young driver will be a lot more cautious in the future."

"If you're a newer driver, there's lots going on and sometimes you just go before it's safe to do so."

St. John explained that SGI will also charge demerits for the accident, which all depends on the driver's record and their age. If the driver was still on a graduated license, they may have to start over at the first stage.

Nonetheless, not all drivers exhibit such a strong sense of responsibility at any age. St. John noted some drivers refuse to take ownership of their actions, blaming the other driver even in near-misses.

"That's sometimes where the road rage comes in, because the person, even though they're completely at fault, even if they have witnesses, sometimes they get really mad in those circumstances, at the other driver, even though they had nothing to do with it."
