Two people face a combined 56 charges in connection with trailers stolen across Calgary.

The Calgary Police Service (CPS) has laid over 50 charges on a pair of suspects who are alleged to have trafficked stolen utility trailers in the Calgary area.

Investigators say nine trailers disappeared from various properties between October 2023 and December 2024. Each one was allegedly fitted with a fake vehicle identification number before being listed for sale online.

Police were able to recover all nine trailers, which were sold to unknowing victims, between Nov. 2024 and Aug. 2025.

The trailers were returned to their owners, though the nine buyers were left with a combined $77,500 loss.

Officers executed a search warrant on Feb. 6, 2025, on a residence in the area of 34 Ave NW and seized several items, including trailer re-vining equipment, 191 identity documents, a .22-calibre rifle believed to have been stolen in a break-and-enter, and ammunition.

Samantha Bremner (40) and Gunther Schwarten (39), both of Calgary, were charged.

Bremner has been charged with:

  • Nine counts of trafficking stolen property over $5,000
  • Nine counts of fraud over $5,000
  • Five counts of possession of the proceeds of crime over $5,000
  • Two counts of possession of the proceeds of crime under $5,000
  • One count of possession of stolen property under $5,000
  • One count of theft under $5,000
  • One count of careless storage of a firearm
  • One count of unauthorized possession of a firearm
  • One count of possession of a firearm obtained in a crime
  • One count of possession of identity documents
  • One count of possession of identity information
  •  One count of possession of stolen credit cards
  •  One count of possession of drugs
  • One count of public mischief
  • One count of failure to comply with a probation order

Schwarten has been charged with:

  • Five counts of trafficking in stolen property over $5,000
  • Five counts of fraud over $5,000
  • One count of possession of the proceeds of crime over $5,000
  • One count of theft under $5,000
  • One count of possession of stolen property under $5,000
  • One count of careless storage of a firearm
  • One count of unauthorized possession of a firearm
  • One count of possession of a firearm obtained in a crime
  • One count of possession of identity documents
  • One count of possession of identity information
  •  One count of possession of stolen credit cards
  • One count of possession of drugs
